Plot
One hundred years ago, Earth and humanity found themselves under the attack of demons, supernatural beings that arrived from an alternate dimension. With demons possessing magic and being invulnerable to conventional weapons such as firearms and bombs, all seemed lost as humanity was one-sidedly slaughtered. This situation changed with the visit of a mysterious man, who entrusted to humanity his knowledge of sorcery in the form a single book, the grimoire Liber Al vel Legis, the Book of the Law. Through the sacrifice of the lives and minds of many people, humanity managed to decipher a small part of the book and obtained the secrets of magic, allowing them to fight back against demons.
However, 5 years prior to the start of the series, humanity was faced with another hopeless trial as the first Demon King-class demon, Typhon, arrived to Earth. Despite the efforts of all magicians and the armies of the entire world, Typhon ravaged the surface of the Earth for ten days, destroying most of the countries in the world, until it was defeated by a young boy, Homura Kamishiro, who had managed to completely decipher the Liber Legis and thus obtained the power to control Evil Gods. However, humanity feared the boy's overwhelming strength, and he was branded a traitor who used demonic powers by the World Government formed by the surviving countries. The boy spent several years ostracized by most humans, but one day he suddenly received an invitation from one of his remaining acquaintances, asking him to come to Tokyo's Sorcery Academy.
